GYPSY AUDITION INFORMATION

SYNOPSIS

Mama Rose is a wildly determined stage mother trying to make her two young daughters into famous vaudeville performers. At first, she focuses on the younger, cuter June. But when June runs off to marry her beau, Tulsa, Rose concentrates on her other daughter, Louise. Louise, filled with hidden talent, becomes a star.

SCRIPT PREVIEW:  Wednesday December 2nd  |  6:30pm  |  AXIS Nightclub & Theatre (775 N High Street Cols OH 43215)

A script preview is an open house to all who are interested in being a part of the show.  The director and production staff will be in attendance to talk with you about their concept for the production, what type of people they are looking for and to answer any questions you may have.  If you don't know anything about the show, this is your chance to get a sneak peek at the script and listen to the score.

The Script Preview is optional, but many have found it to be helpful in preparing for the audition.  If you are unable to attend but would like to know more about the show, go to wikipedia.org and search the show title.  Wikipedia is very helpful in learning about shows.

Though walk-in auditioners are welcome, we strongly request that you reserve a specific time for your audition.  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

PREPARATION FOR ADULT AUDITIONS
Please prepare a music audition for our production team. You will need to prepare sixteen (16) measures of a song. A piano and CD player will be available on site. Participants may bring a CD of music, or may sing from sheet music. While an accompanist from the staff will be available on this day, auditionees with sheet music must drop off their music no later than 9:30 on that day. No a capella singing, at the request of the director.

The directing staff prefers that your choice of song be of the style of “golden era” musical, as that best matches the style of music for this production. Contemporary musical numbers will likely not give as best an insight into your performance abilities with respect to this show.

Please bring a hard copy of a resume and headshot. A simple current (within 1 year) photograph is satisfactory in lieu of a headshot, or email this information in advance to our This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Please bring your appointment calendars on that day so that you are prepared to state any rehearsal conflicts you may anticipate.

CHILD AUDITIONS
Please email Ed Eblin at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to schedule.

December 12, starting at 10:00am at Axis Nightclub. Participants must complete all paperwork,
including dates of availability, by this date. Auditions are group-oriented. Everyone will be given a number and auditioning in groups. Parents may elect to be present for the audition but must not coach their child in any way during the audition, and must allow the directing staff to control the audition. Children are expected to speak for themselves if asked any direct questions by the staff. While waiting, children must be monitored at all times and remain under control.

From 10:00-11:00, only boys will be heard first. The boys will only be asked to sing their prepared song. If possible, and if casting is completed from the adults from the week before, the directing staff may bring in the adult males that they will be playing and see about pairing them together.

From 11:00-12:00, girls will be asked to sing and read from the script, similar to the boy auditions.

Child Callbacks: The directing staff does not anticipate the need to have callbacks, and will make every effort to have them read for specific roles at the time of their audition. Should the need for callbacks arise, the directing staff will work with those individuals in that case.
